Mary Undoer of Knots 24" - 2323

Mary Undoer of Knots or Mary Untier of Knots, is a painting which was donated around 1700 by Canon Hieronymus Ambrosius Langenmantel, of the monastery of Saint Peter in Augsburg. This painting is said to be in connection with an event in his family. His grandfather was on the verge of separation from his wife, and sought help from a Jesuit priest named Jakob Rem. Father Rem prayed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, with the prayer translate to "In this religious act, I raise the bonds of matrimony, to untie all knots and smoothen them"; immediately, peace was restored between husband and wife, and the separation did not proceed.
