Saint Gerard was born in 1726 in Muro, Italy to a family of seven. He grew up in poverty, with a great respect for the poor. When his father died, he was sent to live with his uncle to learn to become a tailor. After working as an apprentice for a few years, he took on a job with the local Bishop of Lacedonia as a servant. At the age of 21, he split his earnings between his mother, the poor of Muro and the rest in offerings for the poor souls. Saint Gerard began to grow pale and thin, and he often fasted and prayed in a nearby Cathedral. He applied twice to the Capuchin Monastery, but both time was turned down, until he joined the Congragation of the Most Holy Redeemer, and just three years later became a professional laybrother. This humble Saint had faculties associated with certain mystics including levitation, bi-location and the ability to read souls. Throughout his short life, many reported miracles are tied to Majella including restoring a boy's life after he fell from a high cliff, ridding a poor farmer's crops of mice, blessing a poor family's wheat supply and multiplying bread for the poor on several occasions. His prayers are sought for children, unborn children, women in childbirth, mothers and expectant mothers, motherhood, falsely accused people, good confessions, laybrothers and Muro Lucano in Italy. He passed away on 16th October 1755, at the age of 29.
