Saint Januarius was born in Italy, and was bishop to Benevento during the Emperor Diocletian persecution. The Bishop went to visit two deacons and two laymen in prison, but he was also imprisoned alongside his deacon and lector. All were thrown to the wild beasts, but were not attacked by them, and the men were then beheaded. Saint Januarius' blood is kept in a glass relic in Naples, where it is kept mostly solidified, apart from on 3 occasions: once in May, once in December and one in September, where the blood liquifies. If the blood stays solid, this may mean that there are upcoming bad events, and in the past, the Saint's blood remaining solid has 'foretold' a famine in 1559, a cholera outbreak in 1833, the Allied bombing in 1944, and an earthquake in 1980.
