Franz Josef Pey was the son of a doctor who studied in Provence and Paris. At the age of twenty, he entered a newly established seminary where he was ordained priest in 1784. Later on, he worked as chaplain and confessor in Paris while he was continuing his studies until he became a Master of Arts graduate. From 1788 on, he served as vicar in St. Landry. He was arrested together with other priests during the French Revolution. Because of his refusal of the oath to the Civil Constitution, he was executed in 1791.Â
