Saint Ludovico of Casoria was born Arcangelo Palmentieri, and joined the Franciscan Friars Minor on 1st July 1832, where he took the name Ludovico. He taught philosophy and mathematics to young friars in Naples, Italy. Around 1852, he opened a school dedicated to educating young Africans who had been ransomed from slavery and founded a school for the deaf and the mute. Established centers for the care of elderly friars. He founded the Gray Friar's of Charity and then the Franciscan Sisters of Saint Elizabeth (or Gray Sisters of Saint Elizabeth). He passed away on 30th March of natural causes.
