Saint Bernadette was born in Lourdes on 7th January 1844. Growing up with asthma and in poverty, she was unable to make her First Holy Communion until the age of 14. On 11th February 1858, Saint Bernadette was out collecting firewood with her sister along the banks of the Gave River when she saw the apparition of a beautiful woman inside a cave above the riverbank. Saint Bernadette went on to visit the riverside to see the vision of Our Lady again, and on 25th February, Our Lady told Saint Bernadette to drink from the fountain, and then caused a spring to flow from the earth. One momth later on the 25th March, Our Lady finally revealed to Saint Bernadette her title, proclaiming "I am the Immaculate Conception". Saint Bernadette became a Sister of Notre Dame at Nevers in 1866, where she remained for the rest of her life. After a couple exhumations, Saint Bernadette's body was found to be incorrupt, and she was placed in a gold and glass reliquary at the motherhouse of the Sisters or Nevers.
